Happy Thursday! It’s me, it’s Meg. Today’s gumdrop is a poem taken from a Big Old Book of poems that belonged to my G.Rose. She used to read to me when I was a little thing, and when she died, I found that she left me little gumdrops in some of her books.
This copy of The Best Loved Poems of the American People selected by Hazel Felleman actually belonged to my Great Aunt Sheila (G.Rose’s sister) before it was hers. Anyway, there are strips of paper stuffed throughout, marking specific pages and poems. I know she marked these for me to find for many reasons, and I’ll just ask you to trust me on it.
So today, I thought I’d offer you a very special G.Rose gumdrop. It’s the first of the seven poems she marked for us.
It’s a classic from Lord Byron, and you’ve probably (definitely) heard it or read it before…
